Headline helps students run recruiting outreach: save the people you want to contact, see what you have in common, and get email drafts written for you. This page explains what we store, why, and who helps us process it. The short version: your data is used to run Headline for you, we never sell it, and we never send an email on your behalf.

What we store

  • Your account: your email address, used to sign you in.
  • Your profile: what you enter on the Profile page — name, school, other schools, graduation year, major, clubs (and their abbreviations), hometown, settings, and your resume file if you upload one.
  • People you add:when you click “Add to Headline” in the extension on a LinkedIn profile, we save that person’s name, firm, title, details from their education, a guessed work email address, and what you have in common. The full page text is only kept when we couldn’t read the profile properly, so you can fix it.
  • Firm email formats you add:the format (like first.last) and the part after the @. Never the address you worked it out from. It applies to your contacts right away, and once we’ve reviewed it, it may be used to guess addresses at that firm for other users.
  • What you write: chat notes, notes on a contact, email drafts, and your own templates.
  • Usage information:which pages you visit and events like “added a contact” or “draft created”, linked to your account. This never includes the contents of your contacts, notes or drafts. We don’t record your screen or your clicks.
  • Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

How we use it

Only to run Headline for you: finding what you have in common with someone, writing your drafts, putting drafts in your Gmail or Outlook, reminding you about follow-ups, and fixing problems. During the beta we look at usage counts and error messages to find bugs — not at your contacts, notes or drafts.

We don’t sell or rent your data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or buy contact data about anyone from data vendors.

The browser extension

  • LinkedIn:it only reads a profile when you click “Add to Headline”, and only the one profile you’re looking at. It scrolls that page and opens its “see more” sections so the whole profile is read. It never browses LinkedIn for you, collects profiles in bulk, or uses your LinkedIn login.
  • Gmail and Outlook:the extension only runs in your mail while it saves a draft. For an intro it opens a new message; for a follow-up or thank-you it finds your latest sent email to that person (by searching your Sent folder) and clicks Reply, so it stays in the same conversation. It fills in the draft (and attaches your resume to intros, if you uploaded one) and lets your mail app save it to Drafts. It never sends an email, and it doesn’t copy or send us anything from your mailbox, except, in Gmail, the ID of the conversation a draft was saved in, so the next one can reply there. For Outlook, a window opens briefly while the draft is saved.
  • Sign-in: connecting the extension uses a one-time code. You can disconnect it anytime from your Profile page, which cuts off its access right away.

Who helps us run Headline

These companies process data on our behalf, only to provide their service:

  • Supabase — database, sign-in, and resume file storage
  • Vercel — hosts the website
  • Anthropic— the AI that reads saved profiles and writes parts of your drafts. Data sent through Anthropic’s API isn’t used to train its models.
  • PostHog — usage analytics, as described above
  • Stripe — payments
  • Resend — sends your sign-in emails
  • InboxSDK — the tool the extension uses to create Gmail drafts; it sends its own error reports and basic usage data to InboxSDK

How it's protected

Each account can only access its own data — this is enforced by the database itself, not just the website. Your resume is stored privately and is only reachable through short-lived links when a draft is being created.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile or remove your resume anytime on the Profile page.
  • Disconnect the extension anytime from the Profile page.
  • Turn off automatic drafting into Gmail/Outlook on the Profile page.
  • Delete a contact, with its notes, from that contact’s page.
  • Delete your account and everything in it anytime at the bottom of the Profile page. This also cancels a monthly plan. Drafts already in your Gmail or Outlook stay there, since they’re in your own mailbox.

We keep your data until you delete your account.
